On Monday, August 11th, the file sharing protocol in use at Weinstein A+U will change from AFP to SMB, as Apple will soon deprecate AFP. This means the address used when connecting to the file server will change from afp://shares.weinsteinau.com to smb://shares.weinsteinau.com.
Since MacTechs is unable to change the server address on each computer remotely, all users must make this modification to their computers.
Additionally, any shortcuts (favorites) you have added to the Finder sidebar and/or Dock will need to be recreated, as they reference an AFP connection. When recreating, we recommend using this approach for greatest durability.
On Monday, August 11th, please follow the brief but important steps below. This can be done in the office or remotely, and will take 1-2 minutes.
Connect to the file server by selecting the SMB address and clicking Connect. You may be prompted for your network credentials. When connecting via SMB for the first time, you may see the following alert:
Click Connect.
Note: If you see this prompt when your computer is already connected to the server, click Cancel. Only click Connect if there is no existing connection.
You may also see the above prompt when opening InDesign projects that contain links to assets on the file server. You will need to relink the project’s asset links to use SMB rather than AFP. For more information, see this support document:
