Recently you may have noticed the Microsoft AutoUpdate application randomly launching on your workstation. Microsoft AutoUpdate is a companion app that checks for and installs updates to Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Historically, WA+U workstations have been configured to disable Microsoft AutoUpdate. This allows control ofwhichupdates are installed, andwhenthey are installed. Silencing Microsoft AutoUpdate also prevents pestering users with prompts which they understandably may not be certain what to do with.
We learned last week that Microsoft recently made changes to how Microsoft AutoUpdate works, thwarting the prior silence configurations and thus allowing the app to launch randomly.
We're working to distribute a new configuration that will return Microsoft AutoUpdate to its prior silenced state.
In the meantime, when Microsoft AutoUpdate presents itself, you can simply quit it.
